This Policy applies to information we collect in the Services and on any other websites or apps where this Policy is posted. It does not apply to information processed by third party artificial intelligence software that is integrated into the Services

By downloading or using the Services, you agree to allow us to collect and process information as described in this Policy. If you do not agree to this Policy, please do not use the Services.

Information We Collect and How We Collect It

We obtain information about you through the means discussed below when we provide the Services. The type of information we collect depends on the features you use on the Services. Please note that we need certain types of information to provide the Services to you. If you do not provide us with such information, you may no longer be able to access or use certain Services features.

Information You Provide Directly to Us

We may collect information when you use the Services. Information you may provide us includes:

  • Account Information.  Your name, birthday, postal address, email address, telephone number, biometric data for facial recognition features or any other information you provide us when creating an account;
  • User Content. Information about yourself that is included in media (including videos, scripts, audio, images), text, messages, comments or other content you post or upload to our Services (“Content”);
  • Community Information. Information related to your participation in communities, including communities you create, join, or leave; community names and descriptions, your role within each community (creator, moderator, or member); moderation actions you take (such as approving members, removing posts, or enforcing community rules); community-specific rules you establish; and your posts, comments, and interactions within communities;
  • Communication Information.  Information you provide when you interact with us (e.g., when you request information from us, interact with our personnel, create or modify an account with us, submit a report about content or a community or provide us feedback); and
  • Other Information.  Any other information you choose to share with us.

Information We Collect Through Automatic Data Collection Technologies

We may automatically collect information about your use of the Services as follows:

Device/Usage Information. We may collect and analyze information, including but not limited to (a) browser type; (b) ISP or operating system; (c) domain name; (d) access time; (e) referring or exit pages; (f) page views; (g) IP address; (h) unique device identifiers (e.g. IDFA or Android ID); (i) the type of device that you use; (j) mobile network information, and (k) the device's telephone number. We may also track when and how frequently you access or use the Services, including how you engage with or navigate our Services. We use this information (including the information collected by our third-party service providers) for analytics (including to determine which portions of the Services are used most frequently and what our users like/do not like), content recommendations and community discovery and as otherwise described in this Policy.

Cookies and Other Electronic Technologies. We and our third-party service providers may use cookies, clear GIFs, pixel tags, SDKs, and other technologies that help us better understand user behavior, personalize preferences, perform research and analytics, and improve the Services. These technologies, for example, may allow us to tailor the Services to your needs, save your password in password-protected areas, track the pages you visit, help us manage content, and compile statistics about usage of our Services. We also may use these technologies to collect information about your activities over time and across third-party websites, apps, or other online services (behavioral tracking).

We or our third-party service providers may use certain of these technologies in emails to our customers to help us track email response rates, identify when our emails are viewed, and track whether our emails are forwarded.

You can choose to accept or decline cookies. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but your browser may allow you to modify your browser settings to decline cookies if you prefer. If you disable cookies, you may be prevented from taking full advantage of the Services, because the Services may not function properly. As we adopt additional technologies, we may also gather additional information through other methods.

Location Information. In some cases, we collect and store information about where you are located, such as by converting your IP address into a rough geolocation. We may ask you to grant us access to your mobile device’s geolocation data. If you grant such permission, we may collect information about your precise geolocation. Media files you upload may contain embedded location data (such as GPS coordinates in EXIF metadata, device and camera information and timestamps). We may extract and process this data to provide location-based features or for content moderation purposes. You can remove location metadata from your content before uploading by disabling location services on your device's camera settings.

Information From Third Party Sources

We may receive information about you from other Services users, such as when they include information about you in Content or when they refer you to the Services.

Notice to Non-Users. We may process your information if we receive it from our users through certain features available on the Services, such as when users share their contact lists photos and media content with us. We process this information even if you’re not a Services user and don’t have an account with us. This information may include your name and phone number, and we may use this information to suggest accounts for the user to follow and investigate suspicious activity on the Services and keep our platform safe and secure. For users who opt in, we may also perform facial recognition analysis on their shared photo and media content, which will contain biometric information of individuals featured in such media files. Users can also invite non-users to use the Services.

How We Use Your Information

We may use your information for any of the following purposes:

  • Provide the Services and any other information, products, or services that you request from us;
  • Process and deliver your content, including transcoding, compression, and format conversion for playback across devices where applicable;
  • Recommend communities, content, and connections to you, and make your content discoverable to other users through search results and recommendations;
  • Support community creation, management, and moderation, including enabling community creators and moderators to manage membership, enforce community-specific rules, and review reported content within their communities;

  • Verify whether you are an authentic user;
  • Create personalized experiences, notifications and content highlights;

  • For other research and analytical purposes;
  • To investigate and enforce violations of our Terms of Use and Community Guidelines;

The Company may use your Content, in aggregated and de-identified form, to train and improve Artificial Intelligence (AI) models and platform algorithms, provided that such training does not include personally identifiable information without explicit user consent. For more information about how AI is used in the Services, see our Terms of Use.

Disclosure of Your Information

We may disclose your information to the following entities. Our practices may vary depending on the type of information.

  • To our subsidiaries and affiliates.
  • To contractors, vendors, and other third parties we use to support our business, including without limitation third party artificial intelligence models and platforms.
  • We may disclose information when we believe that doing so is necessary to protect, enforce, or defend the legal rights, privacy, safety, or property of Company, our employees or agents or users, and to comply with applicable law. This includes exchanging information with other entities for the purposes of fraud protection and credit risk reduction. In other instances, we may share your information with law enforcement or other government entities in order to comply with valid legal process, including responding to requests from public and government authorities.
  • We may transfer the information we hold in the event we sell or transfer all or a portion of our business or assets (such as in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganization, dissolution or liquidation) or take steps in anticipation of such a transaction.
  • For any other purpose disclosed by us when you provide the information.
  • With your consent.
  • We may share aggregated or de-identified data with any entities for any purpose, in our discretion.

Your Content. Your Content may be public or restricted depending on where and how you post, send or share it. If applicable, content posted in public communities is visible to all users by default and may appear in search results and recommendations. Content posted in private communities is visible only to members of that community. The Services may provide tools to restrict the audiences’ ability to see your Content, but you should assume that anything you publish is publicly accessible unless you have explicitly selected otherwise. We cannot control the actions of other users or third parties with whom you may choose to share your Content, so Content you share publicly may be copied and shared throughout the Internet. Your Content is posted and transmitted to others at your own risk.

In addition, we integrate with third parties to process Content on our Services, such as third-party artificial intelligence model providers, and those model providers may retain copies of and further use without restriction the Content we send to them or which they process. The collection and processing of your Content will be subject to the privacy policies of these third parties, and not this Policy.

Online Analytics and Tailored Advertising

Analytics

We may use third-party analytics on the Services. These service providers use the sort of technology described in the “Information We Collect Through Automatic Data Collection Technologies” section above to help us analyze how users use the Services, including by noting the third-party website from which you arrive. The information collected by the technology will be disclosed to or collected directly by these service providers, who use the information to evaluate your use of the Service. We also use Google Analytics for certain purposes related to advertising, as described in the following section. To prevent Google Analytics from using your information for analytics, you may install the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-on.

Tailored Advertising

We may allow certain third parties (e.g., ad networks and ad servers such as Google Analytics) to serve tailored marketing to you and to access their own cookies or other tracking technologies on your computer, mobile phone, or other device you use to access the Services. We neither have access to, nor does this Policy govern, the use of cookies or other tracking technologies that may be placed on your computer, mobile phone, or other device you use to access the Services by non-affiliated, third-party ad technologies, ad servers, ad networks or any other non-affiliated third parties. Those parties that use these technologies may offer you a way to opt out of targeted advertising as described below. You may receive tailored advertising on your computer through a web browser. Cookies may be associated with de-identified data linked to or derived from data you voluntarily have submitted to us (e.g., your email address) that we may share with a service provider in hashed, non-human-readable form.

If you are interested in more information about tailored browser advertising and how you can generally control cookies from being put on your computer to deliver tailored marketing, you may visit the Network Advertising Initiative's (“NAI”) Consumer Opt-Out Link and/or the Digital Advertising Alliance's (“DAA”) Consumer Opt-Out Link to opt-out of receiving tailored advertising from companies that participate in those programs. To opt out of Google Analytics for Display Advertising or customize Google Display Network ads, you can visit the Google Ads Settings page. Please note that to the extent advertising technology is integrated into the Services, you may still receive advertising content even if you opt out of tailored advertising. In that case, the advertising content will just not be tailored to your interests. Also, we do not control any of the above opt-out links and are not responsible for any choices you make using these mechanisms or the continued availability or accuracy of these mechanisms. If your browsers are configured to reject cookies when you visit this opt-out page, or you subsequently erase your cookies, use a different computer or change web browsers, your NAI or DAA opt-out may no longer be effective. Additional information is available on NAI's and DAA's websites, accessible by the above links.

Your Choices

You have certain choices with respect to your information:

  • Account Information: You can review and change your information by logging into the Services and visiting your account profile page (if available).

  • Disable Certain Information: You can also disable certain features (such as facial recognition) in your account settings in the Services or contact support@ripple.so
  • Community and Privacy Controls: You may set communities you create to public or private. You may adjust the visibility of your content and profile information within communities. You may leave any community at any time, which will remove your membership data from that community (though Content you posted that others have interacted with may persist in our Services). You may manage your community membership visibility in your account settings.
  • Access, Correct, and Delete Information: You can delete your information by deleting your account, which you can do in the account settings in the Services or emailing us at support@ripple.so.  (If applicable law permits you to delete individual pieces of Content, you can do so by emailing us.)   We may not accommodate a request to change information if we believe the change would violate any law or legal requirement or cause the information to be incorrect. If you delete your Content from the Services, copies of your Content may remain viewable in cached and archived pages or might have been copied or stored by other Services users. Proper access and use of information provided on the Services, including Content, is governed by our Terms of Use.

Securing Your Information

We use a combination of physical, technical, and organizational security measures designed to protect your information against accidental or unlawful destruction or accidental loss, alteration, unauthorized disclosure or access. However, no data transmission or method of electronic storage can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, and we cannot ensure the security of information during its transmission between you and us.

You play a critical role in protecting your information by maintaining up-to-date computer security protections. Steps you take to ensure the security of your computer, computer passwords, or other personal identifier authentication mechanisms are key components of the protection of your personal information. You agree that you are responsible for any additional verification procedures and security you deem necessary.

Data Retention

We will retain your information for as long as necessary to provide the Services and for the other purposes set out in this Policy. We also store information when necessary to comply with contractual and legal obligations, when we have a legitimate interest to do so (such as improving and developing the Services, and enhancing the safety, security, and stability of the Services). We may also store your information in order to defend or ascertain our legal rights, respond to valid legal requests, in the context of a merger/acquisition or in order to implement our Terms of Use or our other legal agreements with you.

In all cases, in addition to the purposes, we consider the amount, nature and sensitivity of the information, as well as the potential risk of harm from unauthorized use or disclosure of your information, in determining how long to retain information.

Third-Party Links and Services

The Services may contain links to, or embedded content or plugins from, third-party websites or services. If you choose to use these sites or services, you may disclose your information not just to those third parties, but also to their users and the public more generally depending on how their services function. Because these third-party websites and services are not operated by us, we are not responsible for the content or practices of those websites or services. The collection, use, and disclosure of your personal and other information will be subject to the privacy policies of the third-party websites or services, and not this Policy. We urge you to read the privacy and security policies of these third parties.

Children’s Privacy

This Services are not intended for children under age 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If we learn that a child under the age of 18 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it in accordance with applicable law.

International Users and Consent to Transfer

Your information may be processed by us in the United States, where data protection and privacy regulations may not offer the same level of protection as in other parts of the world, such as the European Union. By using the Services, you understand and agree to the transfer of your information to the United States, where it may be accessible to law enforcement and national security authorities.

Shine the Light Disclosure

California's "Shine the Light" law, Cal. Civil Code section 1798.83, requires certain businesses to respond to California customers’ inquiries about the categories of personal information (as defined in that statute) that are shared for third parties' direct marketing purposes over the prior calendar year. We do not share your personal information with third parties for their own direct marketing purposes.

Changes to Our Privacy Policy

We may update our privacy policy from time to time. These changes will be reflected in the most current Policy, which is available through the Services. If we make a material change to this Policy, we will notify you as required by law. Your continued use of the Services following any changes signifies your acceptance of our Policy as modified.

We may use your information for any of the following purposes:

  • Provide the Services and any other information, products, or services that you request from us;
  • Process and deliver your content, including transcoding, compression, and format conversion for playback across devices where applicable;
  • Recommend communities, content, and connections to you, and make your content discoverable to other users through search results and recommendations;

Do-Not-Track Disclosure

Company does not recognize or respond to browser-initiated Do-Not-Track signals. Learn more about Do Not Track.

Your Choices

  • You have certain choices with respect to your information:

Third-Party Links and Services
